Good quality data is critical to making decisions about finding the best population fit for a drug, as well as setting a price that will assure success in the market. Traditionally this data has been in the hands of researchers and data scientists, making it difficult for the person creating the contracting options to dive in and get insights quickly. IBM Access and Value Connect (AVC) was created to help with this problem.

Research

We talked with several people in these roles to understand their relationship and how the currently work together. We discovered that while they work together and can usually come to an agreement on a contracting option based on the data, it takes a long time and can be very costly to commission a study into the data. Since this is where the biggest pain point was, we began to imagine a place that the data could be accessed and shared by everyone in the process without needing a background in coding or data science.

Creation/Iteration

Through several rounds of creating wireframes, testing with users and iterating, we arrived at an MVP that could prove useful to our target user and be coded and into the market in a reasonable amount of time.

Impact

AVC is recently released and beginning to gain traction with sales to large pharmaceutical companies. We’ve received some promising feedback from users and are planning the next iteration of the tool.

“It’s very easy to navigate through. It’s well set up. I can’t think of another tool right now that puts the information like this.”

- User at Acadia

“The fact that it is more of a self service type of interface is actually quite helpful because up here at least [at my company] we tend to ask the questions and then get provided the outputs.”
